Has your group ever lost a Dungeons & Dragons adventure like Storm King’s Thunder, Tomb of Annihilation, or Descent Into Avernus?
What would the world look like if you lost all of them?
Doomed Forgotten Realms: Sword Coast Gazetteer reimagines the Forgotten Realms as a world where every worst-case scenario became reality. The demons claimed the Underdark, Baldur’s Gate was dragged into the Nine Hells, Auril froze all of Icewind Dale, and dragon cults summoned Tiamat to rain down terror.
In this post-apocalyptic vision of the Forgotten Realms, all the adventuring heroes failed and were slain—or they never even answered the call to adventure. But even in this darkest timeline, a faint glimmer of hope remains that good might emerge victorious.
The Sword Coast Gazetteer presents 70+ pages with everything you need for running a campaign in this setting! The Doomed Forgotten Realms are perfect for the aftermath of any campaign that results in a TPK—what happens when the heroes aren’t there to save the day? Inside this gazetteer, you'll find:
- Six factions that now rule the Sword Coast: Jarlaxle’s drow pirates, Tiamat’s cultists, servants of the Elder Elemental Eye, a legion serving the fallen angel Zariel, and the Zhentarim in a tenuous alliance with the servants of Vecna
- A reimagining of every major location in the Sword Coast
- Quest and campaign hooks from 1st to 20th level as the characters rise from nobodies to realm-saving heroes…or its new tyrants.
- 5 new subclasses equipped to survive this brutal world:
- Bard: College of the Elements
- Druid: Circle of the Nine
- Fighter: Zhentilar’s Finest
- Rogue: Spell Slayer
- Wizard: School of Secrets
- New backgrounds and a heroic chronicle to quickly generate interesting, complex characters that populate the Doomed Forgotten Realms

Reading through Eve of Ruin and thinking that a possible ending I might engineer for it is this setting right here. Fun stuff. Any word on a POD?

You have done such an amazing job on this series & I hope it continues & expands, but the one thing I & probably the entire community would love to see is a Roll20 conversion. DMs Guild, Roll20, Vecna, please get us Roll20 conversions of this incredible setting! Please?

I gifted this to my GM friend and in running this for us at the end of the first chapter you get a complete picture of how screwed you are. The second chapter keeps pace of course but it has been a lot of fun as we all try to deal with our issues, both individually and as a group. You really get the feel that you are struggling to stay on top of things!

I can't tell on any of the maps or in the text. What was the fate of Yartar? Are they under the dominion of the water cult, the fire cult, or is it just.... gone?

I've been blown away by all of the kind words, thoughtful questions, and kind corrections that the community has provided. However, the DMsguild Discussion section has become increasingly unwieldy. Because of this I have created a Discord server. I will continue to monitor the DMsguild discussion page but for more immediate feedback I encourage you to visit us there!

This is a rules question about the Rogue "Spell Slayer" subclass.
* "Know Thy Enemy" takes a a reaction to Identify a Spell
* "Arcane Contingency" Uses a reaction to avoid damage from spells you've identified.
Once you have identified a spell does that mean you ALWAYS have identified that spell when it is cast? If not then the second part of Arcane Contingency is kind of useless.
And as a comment, For my campaign I am allowing players "Arcane Contingency" once per short rest.

This not being a POD is genuinely a shame. I would love to see more light shed on this product. I'd do it myself, sharing it with others, but there's no POD. You spent years working on this, it really deserves to see the light of day as book.

We hear you Chris and I promise we're working on it. Sorry for the frustrations but I promise that we are doing the best we can given life's circ*mstances. With the end of a challenging school year wrapping up we hope to get it out ASAP.

All the best to you, not a gripe but genuine appreciation behind your project and great ideas. Thanks for these.

It comes as a PDF. I don't know what rights purchasing grants though, so you might not be able to edit it.

Does this have one shots or adventures in it in case the party sidetracks from the main adventure? I have volume 1 and 2, about to start the campaign up....
Scott MFebruary 05, 2023 12:13 am UTC
Hey Joe!
First off thanks so much for the support. It means a lot to us.
With respect to your question -- The gazetteer has multiple plot hooks for many of the locations mentioned, each of which is a few paragraphs long. The legendary Rogue Watson has a pretty comprehensive review of it on Youtube if you want to check it out. Our goal was to make it very useful in fleshing out the campaign but not, in any way, a neccessity.
We hope to do a series of encounters/one shots in the Doomed Forgotten Realms at some point, but right now are working on the demon-infested Underdark :)

This would be awesome on Fantasy Grounds. Have you considered having someone convert it to Fantasy Grounds? I have been wanting to run it but waiting to see if that happens
Scott MFebruary 05, 2023 12:16 am UTC
Would love to do the conversion and it's definitely on the to do list, although it might end up being a summer project.
Brett WNovember 24, 2023 10:28 pm UTC
I guess it didn't make summer list :) hopefully soon! This will be the next campaign I run my players through after it is brought to Fantasy grounds
